Moscow Festival Ballet to perform Cinderella on Feb. 28

GREENSBORO – The Moscow Festival Ballet, one of Russia’s most acclaimed companies, will present “Cinderella” at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, in Aycock Auditorium at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

The fairy tale classic features music by Sergei Prokofiev and choreography by Rostislav Zarkarov. The performance is part of the University Concert/Lecture Series.

The Moscow Festival Ballet was founded in 1989 by Sergei Radchenko, who is now its artistic director. The company has blended leading dancers from across Russia with stars of the Bolshoi and Kirov Ballets, and under Radchenko’s direction, new productions of timeless classics such as “Don Quixote” and “Carmen” have been staged. The company specializes in 20th Century full-length ballets such as “Romeo and Juliet” and “Legend of Love.”

Radchenko graduated from the Moscow School of Dance in 1964. He joined the Bolshoi Ballet, and was a principle dancer with the company for 25 years. In addition to performances, the Moscow Festival Ballet presents a large number of master-classes which continue the rich traditions of the Russian classical school.

Ticket Prices are $35, $30 and $25, depending on seating. To purchase tickets, call or visit the UNCG Box Office (336-334-4849), which has locations in the Elliot University Center and the UNCG School of Music. Box office hours are noon-5 p.m., and on performance nights, 6-8:30 p.m. Free parking is available behind the Weatherspoon Art Museum.

Political comedian Mark Russell will perform Saturday, April 17, as the UC/LS final event.
