UNCG Community to Perform “Songs for a New World” April 3
GREENSBORO – Students and staff, faculty and alumni will unite to perform Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown’s musical, “Songs for a New World,” at 8 p.m. April 3 in Elliott University Center Auditorium.
Donations collected at the performance, produced in conjunction with the Office of Service Learning, American Democracy Project and APO Theatre Fraternity, will benefit the organization Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Praised recently for their strong performances in “Jesus Christ Superstar,” students Nathan Crocker, Brandon Ellis and Amy Blue will join guest artist Kirsten Paludan, a Kansas City-based singer/songwriter/actress for Jason Robert Brown’s musical cabaret.
Alumnus Don Fine is serving as musical director, and alumna Christy Wisuthseriwong, backed by a rhythm section of well-known local musicians, will tackle the piano score. Staff members Neil Shepherd and Waldena Wright, and alumna Lakeetha Blakeney will augment the company.
In mounting “Songs for a New World” as part of her Theatre in the Public Interest course, director Marsha Paludan wishes to celebrate and promote the work of the Service Learning Program as it continues to create a better world.
