Friends of the Library Host Book Discussion
GREENSBORO — The UNCG Friends of the Library has established a new discussion series for readers to indulge their interests in books. The theme for this academic year’s program is “American Journeys.”
Inaugurating the free series will be a moderated discussion of Michael Parker’s second novel, “Towns Without Rivers,” at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, on the second floor of Jackson Library on College Avenue. Parker, an associate professor of English and teacher in the MFA Writing Program, will be available to answer questions and sign copies of his books. Parker is also author of “ Hello Down There,” a New York Times Notable Book of the Year in 1993. Beginning Oct. 2, he teaches the six-week non-credit course, The Contemporary Novel, that is offered through the UNCG Emeritus Society.
To help participants get on the same page, the Friends of the Library have posted discussion questions at http://library.uncg.edu/depts/admin/fol/bookgroup.htm. Refreshments will be provided by Tate Street Coffee House. Admission is free and parking is available in the Walker Ave. deck. Space is limited to 35 participants and pre-registration is requested. Those interested should call (336) 334-5880.
Next in the series will be a discussion on Nov. 18 of Stephen Ambrose’s “Undaunted Courage: Meriweather Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American West.”
