UNCG Orientation Director Receives National Award

GREENSBORO – Ross M. Plasters, who is director of orientation at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, has received the Outstanding Orientation Professional Award from the National Orientation Directors Association (NODA).

The award was presented at the association’s annual conference in Seattle. Plasters joined UNCG in 2000, coming from Washington State University where he had been associate director of new student programs.

At UNCG, Plasters is responsible for planning and implementing the fall, spring and summer orientation programs, along with the selection and training of the student orientation staff. He also provides leadership in developing new student and family programs, assists with annual events like Fall Kickoff and helps to coordinate the University Studies 101 courses.

“This award is indicative of the outstanding work Ross has done, both on the campuses he has served, as well as the service he has provided to NODA over the years,” said Dr. Cheryl Callahan, associate vice chancellor for student affairs. “This is a well-deserved honor for him.”

Plasters is a graduate of Northern Michigan University and holds the master’s in student personnel administration from Central Missouri State University. In addition to his work at WSU, Plasters also has experience as an academic advisor, a judicial review officer, a residence hall director and an instructor in educational psychology. He is a member of the NODA board of directors.
