Native American Cultural Festival and Pow Wow Nov. 9 at UNCG

GREENSBORO — The sights, sounds, tastes and smells of Native American culture can be experienced during the 8th annual Native American Cultural Festival and Pow Wow at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro from 1–6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, on College Avenue.

The free family event will feature a variety of cultural activities and exhibits, as well as a range of arts and crafts, authentic Native American food and music, vendors, face painting and storytelling. A variety of dancers will perform traditional dances, including hoop dancing, traditional dancing, men’s fancy and grass dancing, and women’s jingle dress and shawl dancing. The Eastern Band of Cherokee and the Grupo Painalli, an Aztec dance group, will make special presentations.

Sponsors are UNCG’s Native American Student Association, Student Government Association and Office of Multicultural Affairs, in conjunction with the Guilford Native American Association and Neighbors Stores Inc. For more information, call multicultural affairs at (336) 334-5090.

The annual event reflects the university’s commitment to inspiring cultural awareness in Greensboro and the surrounding region, in addition to preparing students for the multi-generational, culturally diverse world they will be exposed to when they enter the workforce.
