Prime Movers is a student-operated organization that encourages student involvement within the UNCG Department of Dance. Its mission is to build a unified community of dance within the department, promote interaction among graduate and undergraduate students, and raise money for the department. Prime Movers sponsors the annual ACDFA (American College Dance Festival Association) trip, which allows faculty and student choreography to be shown and judged on regional and national levels. Prime Movers is a growing on-campus organization, which in the future hopes to expand beyond the department of dance.
The annual Prime Movers Concert was created as a source for students to show their own choreography. It encourages student creativity and showcases talents by giving dancers the opportunity to collaborate and perform in their peers’ choreography. Each student is given the opportunity to audition a piece of their own work, which is judged by a panel of dancers including two undergraduates, two graduates and one faculty member.
