UNCG FACULTY RETIREMENTS FOR 1999-2000 YEAR

GREENSBORO — Faculty members with over 300 years of service to The University of North Carolina at Greensboro are retiring this year.

A faculty retirement dinner was held on Tuesday, April 11, hosted by Chancellor Patricia A. Sullivan. The retiring faculty also will be honored during the May 12 meeting of the UNC Board of Governors. Most of the faculty members are retiring at the end of this academic year or during the summer, while others retired during the year. The faculty members and their years of service are as follows:

    Dr. William K. Bates, professor, Department of Biology, 30.5 years;
    Dr. Jeutonne P. Brewer, associate professor, Department of English, 26 years;
    Joyce Cantrell, lecturer, Department of Information Systems and Operations Management, seven years;
    Dr. Ronald D. Cassell, associate professor, Department of History, 34 years;
    Dr. Karl R. Gentry, associate professor, Department of Mathematical Sciences, 35 years;
    Dr. David MacKenzie, professor, Department of History, 31 years;
    Joan M. Mathews, clinical associate professor, School of Nursing, 15 years;
    Dr. Mariana Newton, professor, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, 31 years;
    Dr. David M. Olson, professor, Department of Political Science, 29 years;
    Dr. W. Larry Osborne, associate professor, Department of Counseling and Educational Development, 30 years;
    Dr. David J. Pratto, professor and head, Department of Sociology, 31 years;
    Dr. Sandra D. Reed, associate professor, School of Nursing, 33 years;
    Dr. Helen A. Shaw, dean and professor, School of Human Environmental Sciences, 11.5 years.
