UNCG RESEARCHERS LOOK TO TODDLERS FOR ANSWERS

GREENSBORO -  Researchers at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro  are seeking families with two-year-olds to participate in a study of early childhood development.

Called the "Right Track" project, the five-year study, now in its second year, is funded with $1.5 million grant from the National Institute of Mental Health. The goal is to discover how toddlers progress from the "terrible twos" into accepting a world of rules and limitations.

"As many parents experience first hand, the toddler period is a challenging one," said Dr. Susan Calkins, associate professor of psychology. "Most children emerge from this period with the skills and abilities that help them transition smoothly into kindergarten and the world of peers and teachers. Other children, however, may have more difficulty during this period and the transition to school can become compromised. The goal of the Right Track project is to see what factors might influence how children manage this important transition."

Parents are compensated for their participation, and, if needed, transportation and babysitting are provided. Persons interested in participating or finding out more should contact Robin Howse at (336) 256-0028.
