Rikki Tikki Tavi to Pounce at UNCG March 16-21

GREENSBORO – The North Carolina Theatre for Young People and UNCG Theatre will present “The Garden of Rikki Tikki Tavi” in Taylor Theatre March 16-21.

A free-flowing, comic brawl best describes Y York’s loose adaptation of the Kipling classic. Darzee, a diva, is incensed when Rikki Tikki Tavi, a sweet-natured mongoose, washes up in her pristine garden.  This comedy is about sharing and cooperation, and is appropriate for children ages 4-12.

“It is important for children to witness creative problem-solving,” said director Julee Baber. “This classic story still has rich appeal to today's children because we all identify with Rikki's sincerity. His silly, infectious mannerisms not only win over self-centered Darzee but also the audience.”

The play already is touring – visiting elementary schools, libraries and community centers every Tuesday and Thursday of the spring semester. More than 10,000 area school children are expected to see the production on its tour, and 2,000 more will see it at Taylor Theatre.

Joshua Reaves designed the sets, and Tracy Floyd designed the costumes. The cast members are Will Triplett, Chadwick Hubbard, Caitlin Cornwell, Randi Rifkin and Tim Bohn.

The play will be performed at Taylor Theatre on Tate Street at 9:30 a.m. March 16-19; noon and 8 p.m. March 19; and 2 p.m. March 20 and 21. The performance on March 21 will be sign interpreted for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $5 for children and students. Free parking for evening and weekend shows is available behind the Weatherspoon Art Museum.
