UNCG BOND PROJECTS CONSTRUCTION TIMELINE
GREENSBORO -- As The University of North Carolina at Greensboro
prepares its campus for the next century, students, faculty and staff can
expect to see a lot of changes over the next seven to 10 years. Thanks
to voter support last November of the $3.1 billion UNC bond referendum,
UNCG will have 17 projects in various stages of completion.
The first project at UNCG will be the new science building; construction
is expected to begin in mid March. The design phase for seven other projects
will begin this year with construction about two years away. The UNCG Board
of Trustees has already approved architects for two of the projects --
the northeast campus infrastructure improvements and an expanded chiller
plant in the McIver Street Parking Deck. Projects scheduled for improvements
using the $160 million allocated to UNCG include:

New state-of-the-art Science Building to house chemistry and biology departments,
$38.4 million, construction complete by July 2003. The total cost of the
Science Building $47.7 million. The General Assembly has previously allocated
funds to UNCG for facility design and site preparation.

Technology infrastructure expansion, includes fiberglass facilities connector
and data-port connections, $4.1 million, complete by December 2002

Chiller Plant expansion and improvements, $9.3 million, design complete
by February 2003, construction complete July 2004

Land acquisition for development of the south campus area, $7 million,
complete by 2006
-
Northeast campus infrastructure includes pedestrian walkways, lighting,
call-box security and campus entrance changes at quadrant, $6.8 million,
design complete by October 2003, construction complete by April 2005

Stone Building renovation, $8.9 million, design complete by October 2003,
construction complete by May 2005
-
Heating Plant capacity expansion and energy efficiency improvements, $4.8
million, design complete by March 2004, construction complete by August
2005

Replacement for McIver Building A (Art and Interior Design), $10.1 million,
design complete by December 2003, construction complete by April 2006

Replacement for McIver Building B (Humanities and Research), $16.7 million,
design complete by December 2003, construction complete by April 2006

McNutt Building classroom renovation, $2.7 million, design complete by
April 2006, construction complete by August 2007

Forney Building classroom renovation, $3.5 million, design complete by
July 2006, construction complete by November 2007

Expansion and upgrade of electric power distribution system, $4.1 million,
design complete by April 2003, construction complete by November 2007
-
Petty Building renovation, $16.2 million, design complete by May 2006,
construction complete by December 2007

Brown Building renovation, $6.4 million, design complete by August 2006,
construction complete by January 2008
-
Alumni House renovation for code compliance and building system replacements
as well as office space, seminar and meeting areas, $3.2 million, design
complete by September 2006, construction complete by March 2008

Aycock Auditorium renovation includes replacement of electrical and mechanical
systems and interior and exterior improvements, $17.1 million, design complete
by May 2006, construction complete by April 2008
