What people say the new Science Building will mean …

 … for learning

"In a nutshell, I think the new building will mean more students. Students just seem to prefer new over old. To illustrate, the resource room where I tutor was renovated last summer. Before the renovation, I used to see about 12 students per semester. Now I tutor an average of 10 students per week, and I think this dramatic increase was partially due to the new look of the room."

Nicole Bynum
Graduate Student, Chemistry

"One word. Opportunity. For incoming students majoring in biology or chemistry, this building will allow them more opportunities than before. Students will spend less time doing tedious tasks and more time exploring science, which is why we are here in the first place. Students will learn more modern applications of their field, which will inevitably be a great asset to them in the future."

Jeremy Feducia
Junior, Chemistry
"I think the new building will attract new students, possibly increasing the numbers of chemistry and biology majors. Recently I visited UNCW's science building, which is relatively new, and talked to a few students in the program. They commented that the new facility was one of the factors that attracted them to the program. I also believe a better-equipped facility is needed to conduct up-to-date experiments."
         April Quick Muir,
        Graduate Student, Biochemistry

… for instruction

"Less than a month before the groundbreaking of the science building, the human genome was published with a flurry of news stories. Life science will surely be the dominant science of the 21st century, and the Science Building will facilitate UNCG's contribution in research and teaching in this crucial area."

Dr. Neal Stewart
Associate Professor of Biology

"We have offered a modern biology curriculum at UNCG for several years. Now we'll have the physical facilities to optimize the presentation of our courses and labs."

Dr. Vince Henrich,
Associate Professor of Molecular Genetics

"We have seen a dramatic increase in the numbers of students interested in our chemistry and biochemistry programs. All our master's students and many undergraduates have research projects. Just having more room will give students in labs a much more pleasant experience and provide them more opportunities to work independently."

Dr. Alice Haddy
Assistant Professor of Biophysical Chemistry

… for the Triad

" The new science center delivers a strong message from the University and the Community that science and technology are important, and valued in the Triad. This not only will provide our children with the opportunity to study toward world-class careers, but will attract and support the  companies that offer those careers."

Bill Bucklen
Product Line Director
High Speed Converters
Analog Devices, Inc.

"The science building will continue to strengthen the life sciences and physical sciences at UNCG, and the new building will be a centerpiece in the effort to propel the Triad into the new economy."

Eric Button,
CEO, Amplistar

"Access to advanced degrees in science and technology is increasingly an important quality-of-life issue for families. The new science building will no-doubt play an important role in helping to attract and retain the kind of talent pool that the Triad needs as it develops new industries."
