Dr. Walter Salinger Serving as Chair of UNCG Faculty Senate

GREENSBORO – Dr. Walter Salinger, a professor in the Department of Psychology, is serving as chair of the Faculty Senate at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro for the 2003-2004 year.

Salinger joined the UNCG faculty in 1972. As chair, he succeeds Dr. Bennett “Ben” Ramsey, an associate professor in the Department of Religious Studies.

Other officers are Dr. Eileen Kohlenberg, an associate professor and assistant dean in the School of Nursing, as chair-elect; and Dr. Denise Tucker, an assistant professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, as secretary. Dr. Stephen Ruzicka, an associate professor in the Department of History, is serving as secretary of the general faculty.

The Faculty Senate chair provides leadership in the faculty governance process at UNCG. The person serves as the principal spokesman for faculty concerns with the chancellor and provost. The chair’s duties include presiding at meetings of the Faculty Senate and at the business session of the general faculty meetings. The chair also is responsible for setting the agenda for both meetings in consultation with the chancellor, provost and Faculty Senate officers, and also serving as chair of the committee on promotions and tenure.
