Student Artists Join Professional World in Museum Show
GREENSBORO – The Department of Art and the Weatherspoon Art Museum at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro will showcase the best art work by graduating UNCG seniors March 21 through April 25 in the Weatherspoon’s Tannenbaum Gallery.
For most of these students, the show will mark the first time their work is exhibited in a nationally known and accredited art museum. An opening reception will be held Sunday, March 21, at 2 p.m. at the Weatherspoon.
All senior art students were required to submit a work to be judged, and of 75 submissions, 32 were chosen. The selected works include painting, ceramics, drawing, sculpture, digital, printmaking, metal and installations.
Guest juror for this year’s exhibition is Lisa Pearce from the Meredith College Department of Art. Richard Gantt, faculty member for the Department of Art, was the curator.
The goal of the exhibition is to explore the broad range of artistic expression in the undergraduate senior class and to provide an opportunity for graduating senior artists to experience the professional aspects of exhibiting their artwork. Students were required to complete loan forms, attend a workshop about presenting artwork and publicize the show.
“We are looking for students who demonstrate a maturation of their identities as artists,” Gantt said. “The intent is to make this a real, positive, professional experience.”
Students selected for this year’s show are: Corey Adams, Krisstina Adams (ceramic), Jennifer Bergmueller (photography), Daniel Casbergue (digital photography), Christine Catania (mixed media), Tracy Carhart (photography), Tasha Dickey (digital prints), Danielle Dietiker (painting), Jason DiGiacobbe (digital photography), Anna Ericsson (mixed media), Sherry Forsyth (mixed media), Samuel Gallo (print), Erica Gentry (photography), Erika Grace, Sheay Hagar (work on paper), Laura Harkey (photography), Josh Jensen, Michelle Joines, Amanda Koetter (digital print), Dawn Ormsby (photography), Andrew Parker, Courtney Richardson, Julie Rudder (mixed media), Robin Russo (mixed media/drawing), Izumi Ryono (bronze and mixed media), Susan Smullen, Elizabeth Steed (mixed media), Amanda Stephens (digital video), Larry Stowe (video), Derek Toomes (color digital print), Garry Wiley (ceramics), and Jenny Zehnacker (photography).
