ALUMNI FROM REIDSVILLE, GREENSBORO
TO RECEIVE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARDS
GREENSBORO—Two women with records of service to their communities
and to The University of North Carolina at Greensboro will receive the
2001 Alumni Distinguished Service Awards during alumni reunion activities.
The presentations will be made during commencement weekend at the UNCG
Alumni Association’s 108th annual meeting, set for 11:45 a.m. on Saturday,
May 12, at the Koury Convention Center. Approximately 600 alumni are expected
to attend. The awards recognize alumni who have contributed to the "liberal
arts ideal" through service. This year’s recipients are:
-
Marilyn McCollum Moore of Reidsville, Class of 1949. Described as “one
of UNCG’s biggest cheerleaders,” Moore has served on the Alumni Association
Board of Directors and on the Excellence Foundation Board. She also is
a Life Member of the association and holds memberships in the Harriet Elliott
Society and the Unbroken Band. She worked on the Second Century Campaign
for UNCG and was a member of the Class of 1949 reunion gift committee,
which raised $625,000. Moore was a charter member of Woodmont United Methodist
Church and has served on the Friends of the Library and the Museum of History
Associates. Moore worked on the committee that sought the reopening of
Chinqua-Penn Plantation. Her other volunteer activities have included the
United Way, Crippled Children’s Clinic and Junior Service League.
-
Linda Arnold Carlisle of Greensboro, Class of 1972. Described as “an example
of ‘service’ in action,” Carlisle is one of the founders of Friends of
Women’s Studies and is a long-time supporter of the UNCG Women’s Studies
Program, which created the Linda Carlisle Faculty Research Award in her
honor. In addition, she has been both a board of directors member and president
of the UNCG Excellence Foundation. She recently completed a term on the
Bryan School Advisory Board. At the local level, she serves on the boards
of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, the Family Life Council,
the Chamber of Commerce, the Greensboro Montessori School and Youth Chorus.
She also is on the board of SterlingSouth Bank and Trust. She retired in
1997 from Copier Consultants, a firm she owned and managed with her husband
for nearly 20 years.
