Shades of Color Conference to Celebrate Diversity March 20
GREENSBORO – Leadership trainer Aminata Njeri and blind motivational speaker George Mendoza will be featured at the 6th Annual Shades of Color Conference from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 20.
The conference, “Creating Change to Impact the Future,” is a one-day event that invites speakers and presenters of various cultural backgrounds to discuss issues facing different ethnic and minority groups. It will be held in Elliott University Center. In addition to their addresses, Njeri and Mendoza will lead workshops.
Njeri is an ordained minister and a nationally known leadership training and development facilitator. Her workshops and training methods have been employed at more than 900 institutions.
Mendoza lost his sight at age 15 but went on to become a world-class runner and Olympic contender. He writes and lectures extensively on the problems to be overcome by the handicapped. His life was the subject of “The George Mendoza Story,” a PBS-TV documentary narrated by Robert Duvall, and a biography, “Running Toward The Light,” by William Buchanan.
Registration forms and the conference schedule are available in the Office of Multicultural Affairs (Room 217 EUC), the Multicultural Resource Center (Room 062 EUC) and on the website maf.dept.uncg.edu. Early registration before March 15 is $5 for UNCG students and $7 for non-students. Registration after March 15 including the day of the conference will be $7 for UNCG students and $10 for non-students. Lunch is included in the registration fee. Cash and checks should be made payable to UNCG.
