Spartan Spirit Celebrated During Fall Festival
and Family Weekend Sept. 27-29
GREENSBORO — Students, parents, alumni and friends of UNCG are invited to catch the Spartan spirit during Spartan Fall Festival and Family Weekend at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro on Friday-Sunday, Sept. 27-29.
The weekend kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday, with a Spartan Pep Rally at the UNCG fountain, followed at 7 p.m. by women’s soccer against Western Carolina University, and men’s volleyball against East Carolina University.
A highlight of the weekend comes on Saturday, with the men’s soccer match against Liberty University at 7 p.m. Pre-game fun begins with a 5 K run/walk at 9 a.m., followed by a Fall Fest Picnic at 4:30-7 p.m.
The Tate Street-College Hill Music and Arts Festival will be Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. on Tate street. Featured will be live music on stage and approximately 50 vendors with a variety of arts and crafts items. The performance schedule will run: noon-12:45 p.m., the Jason and Julian Band; 1-1:45 p.m., UNCG Jazz Ensemble; 2-2:45 p.m., Memphis; 3-3:45 p.m., Martha and the Mood Swingers; 4-4:45 p.m., Bruce Piephoff. Talking Drums will play during several of the band setups.
Spartan Village is free and open to the public, featuring interactive games, live music with Patrick Rock, and a student “Spirit Showcase.” Attendees can also purchase picnic tickets at $10 for adults and $6 for children under 12.
Also during the weekend, the UNCG rugby 25th anniversary celebration and game will be held, drawing members of the loyal and tight-knit team from across the country. Baseball alumni will also hold a reunion game and gathering, and former Spartan athletes will be inducted into the UNCG Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday at the Sheraton Four Seasons Hotel. Inductees include Alumni Association President Tom Martin, LPGA great Carol Mann, and Andrew Mehalko, who played on the Spartans first two NCAA championship teams, Division III.
Several other student and alumni events round out the weekend, including the UNCG Theatre’s presentation of “The Sound of Music” all three days in Aycock Auditorium, a School of Dance concert Saturday in Taylor Theatre. A comedy show, step show, and other special events round out the weekend. Spartan women’s soccer against Chattanooga winds up the weekend at 2 p.m. Sunday.
