“Titanic – The Musical” Will Dock at UNCG Jan. 24
GREENSBORO – The multiple Tony Award-winning hit “Titanic – The Musical” will sail into Aycock Auditorium at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, as the spring semester opener for the University Concert and Lecture Series (UC/LS) at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
“Titanic” swept the Tony Awards for Best Book, Best Score, Best Sets and Best Musical of the Year. It captures the series of events during the ship’s tragic maiden voyage in 1912. A tale of romance, adventure, greed and ambition, the story follows the passengers and crew as they sailed faster than man had ever traveled before, from one continent to another, surrounded by wealth and opulence. Spurred by a tycoon determined to break the record for ocean-going speed, captained by a trusted veteran of the high seas, the majestic vessel carried a doomed cargo of humanity who were bound not just for America, but for history.
For 76 years, the UC/LS performances have inspired the imaginations of Triad audiences. The 2003-04 series is no different. Themed "Global Connections," the series includes three more diverse and innovative performances that include: The Moscow State Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, Feb. 13, the Moscow Festival Ballet performing “Cinderella,” Feb. 28, and comedian Mark Russell, April 17.
All UC/LS performances start at 8 p.m. in the historic Aycock Auditorium. Tickets for individual events are on sale. Box office hours are noon-5 p.m., and on performance nights, 6-8:30 p.m. For more information, call (336) 334-4849.
