UNCG Theatre to Bring Trestle to the Stage
GREENSBORO - Acclaimed Kentucky playwright Naomi Wallace’s “The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek” will be brought to life by UNCG Theatre Sept. 19-21 and 24-28.
“The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek” is the story of a boy named Dalton and a tomboy named Pace growing up in a rural area during the Depression. It seems that Dalton and Pace are falling in love, but Wallace is not content to let things be that simple.
Director Alan Cook calls the play “rich with desperation and intensity that many of us identify with our late teens.” He adds, “It is mysterious, sexy, compelling and overall universal, which, after all, is why we produce theatre.”
“For all the characters, there is the theme of transformation,” Wallace said. “They are trying to change who they are in order to survive, in order to maintain their humanity.”
John Peery is set to play Dalton, with Cassie Simmons and Drew Barker cast as his parents. Pace will be played by Emily Cole, and the prison guard will be played by Joe Morrissey.
Matthew Fuller designed the sets, Professor Deborah Bell designed the costumes, and David Griffie designed the lighting.
The play includes adult themes and language and is not appropriate for children.
It will be performed in the Brown Building Theater at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 and 25; 8 p.m. Sept. 19, 20, 26 and 27; and 2 p.m. Sept. 21 and 28. The admission charge is $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and non-UNCG students, and $5 for UNCG students.
