DR. WINKLER CHAIRING FACULTY SENATE

GREENSBORO--Dr. Daniel Winkler, a professor in the Department of Business Administration, is serving as chair of the Faculty Senate at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro for the 2000-2001 year.

Other officers are Dr. Samuel Miller, a professor of curriculum and instruction, as chair-elect; and Dr. Bennett Ramsey, an associate professor of religious studies, as secretary; and Dr. Mariana Newton, professor emeritus of communication sciences and disorders, as parliamentarian. In addition, Dr. Bonnie Yarbrough, a lecturer in business administration and associate director of the Women’s Studies Program, is serving as secretary of the general faculty. Winkler succeeds Newton as chair.

The Faculty Senate chair provides leadership in the faculty governance process at UNCG. The person serves as the principal spokesman for faculty concerns with the chancellor and provost. Winkler’s duties as chair will include presiding at meetings of the Faculty Senate and at the business session of the general faculty meetings. He also is responsible for setting the agenda for both meetings in consultation with the chancellor, provost and Faculty Senate officers. He also serves as chair of the committee on promotions and tenure.

Winkler joined the UNCG faculty in 1986. His areas of expertise are in finance and real estate. His recent research has focused on the functioning of finance, real estate and insurance markets. His studies have resulted in 30 articles published in professional and research journals. He has been a co-recipient of two best paper awards from the American Real Estate Society. He also received two research grants from the Real Estate Research Institute. He was a founder in 1989 of the Bryan School Alumni Association, and has served as the group’s faculty liaison.  He holds the Ph.D. degree from the University South Carolina.
