Beginning Fall 1998, students must be continuously enrolled throughout their graduate programs unless they have applied for a formal leave of absence. This policy will be especially relevant for those students who have completed their coursework (including thesis/dissertation hours), but have not completed their thesis/dissertation and its defense.
Students who continue to use university resources, including computing, library and faculty resources, to complete their degrees must enroll in and pay tuition and fees for 1-3 credit hours, as determined in consultation with their faculty adviser. These hours will not count toward their degree. Students required to enroll in additional hours to complete their master´s thesis will enroll in KIN 801 and doctoral students completing their dissertation will enroll in KIN 802. All students must be enrolled for credit during the semester in which they complete their graduate work or are scheduled to receive their degrees. This includes students completing their degrees in the summer.
Students involved in projects not related to thesis or dissertation work should register for KIN 803, Research Extension. This will enable you to use the library, computers, labs and other university facilities.
Please note that limitations on length of time from first enrollment to graduation are in effect (see the catalogue). If you anticipate not graduating in this time frame, it is very important that you file for an extension.
International Students: Check carefully to determine if a leave of absence will have adverse effects on your visa or employment status.
