Professor Wideman teaches in the areas of body composition, endocrine function, exercise physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology. She has conducted research on the effects of exercise on growth hormone release, the use of physical activity to reduce risk factors for chronic disease, obesity and body composition. Her work has been published in journals such as American Journal of Physiology, Metabolism, Journal of Applied Physiology, Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, Diabetes, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, Geriatric Nursing, and Sports Medicine.
Her research has received funding from several local and regional organizations including the Moses Cone~Wesley Long Community Health Foundation, Champion Athleticwear, and North Carolina Institute of Nutrition. Dr. Wideman is a collaborator on the National Institutes of Health (NCMHD) funded grant investigating health disparities in the Triad. She is a member of the Endocrine Society, the American College of Sports Medicine and the Heart & Stroke Health Partnership.
