Dr. Pam Kocher Brown is an associate professor in the Kinesiology Department at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She joined the faculty in 2003 and currently teaches in the areas of pedagogy, sociohistorical perspectives and the activities program.
Dr. Brown is an advocate for online instruction and the use of technology to engage students and foster learning. She regularly presents at teaching and learning conferences including the Lilly South and Lilly North, The University of North Carolina Teaching and Learning with Technology Collaborative, and the Teaching Professor Conference . In addition, she leads hands-on workshops with her school’s ITC on campus, as well as, local universities. Within her department and school she is the “go to person” for questions about online instruction. Her expertise led to an invitation to create the online instructional materials for one of the top textbooks in the field of Kinesiology.
Dr. Brown teaches and coordinates one of the large enrollment courses offered by the University as part of its iSchool program that offers online university courses to high school students for both high school and college credit. This course has served as many as 900 high school students in one semester.
She was the 2007 recipient of the Teaching Excellence Award for the School of Health and Human Performance.
Dr. Brown is also the Physical Education Teacher Education Coordinator and oversees student teacher placement and supervision. She serves as the departmental and school representative on the Curriculum Committee. She is a member of the Undergraduate Studies Committee.
Her background is diverse and includes experience in online instruction, aquatics, pedagogy, exercise physiology, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, administration and coaching (soccer and tennis). She is an advocate for creating a learning environment where students are actively engaged in the learning process. Her goal is for students to not only gain knowledge about the area of Kinesiology but to be able to apply it now, as well as, in the future.
