Master´s Degrees Leading to Advanced Licensure

  1. Both the master's degrees -- M.Ed. and M.S. – can be taken with the intention of obtaining North Carolina Advanced Licensure. Either degree may qualify the candidate for a North Carolina Public School "Advanced" license if the individual holds a valid "A" level license in physical education and has successfully completed two (2) years of teaching. The Department of Kinesiology does not grant the Advanced Licensure. The Department of Kinesiology recommends that those Individuals who are interested in obtaining an "Advanced" license enroll in HHP 697. This course is designed to prepare students to meet National Board Standards and/or to seek the alternate route (Option B) to Advanced Licensure in North Carolina.
  2. A master's student who seeks advanced certification in another state should find out what requirements pertain in that state and plan his/her program accordingly. States differ in their requirements.
