- 7/30/98 Renewal of Books Online Now Available in Web Version of JACLIN Plus!
Many UNCG students, faculty, and staff are already familiar with the BORROWER INFORMATION
feature in the telnet version of JACLIN Plus, the Library's online catalog. This feature
allows UNCG affiliates to look at what books they have checked out, and to renew them online
if they are not overdue. It also furnishes information about what requests a borrower may
have placed on certain titles. Now this same functionality is available in the Web version of
JACLIN Plus and is listed as YOUR LIBRARY ACCOUNT . Both versions require entering
your UNCG University ID and a four digit University PIN.
- 7/30/98 Humanities Abstracts Now Widely Accessible to UNCG Affiliates
This month Humanities Abstracts
,
a database which indexes periodicals and provides abstracts for a broad
spectrum of the humanities, became available in both the Web and the Telnet versions of JACLIN
Plus. This change will allow UNCG affiliates to log onto this popular database at the
Library,
from elsewhere on campus, or off campus. The indexing of journals in Humanities Abstracts
covers
February '84 to date. Abstracts are included from March '94 to date. In the Web version of
JACLIN Plus, Humanities Abstracts is located under Electronic Databases and
Indices. In the telnet Information Gateway version of JACLIN Plus, select FirstSearch
under
JACLIN Options. Access to Humanities Abstracts requires both your UNCG ID and your four digit
UNCG
PIN.

- 7/7/98 More PCs Added for JACLIN Web Public Access and Photocopiers Moved
As the popularity of the JACLIN Web interface to the library's collections and to
virtual collections continues to grow, the Library is keeping pace by adding more computers
for public access. Last Spring a total of 16 new PCs were added to the public catalog area of
the Library and to floors 2,3,4, and 6 of the Tower Book Stacks. This month three more
Pentium PCs were added in the "Big Head corridor" (Corridor between the old and the new
sections of the Library) bringing the total JACLIN Web machines to 19. In preparation for the
installion of the PCs we have moved the public photocopiers that were there to new locations.
One of the two photocopiers has been moved to the Current Periodicals/Reserves Room, where
there are now a total of four. The other has been moved to Tower Floor 7. To summarize the
photocopier situation, we now have ten for public use in the following locations: 4 (CP/R); 2
(Basement Tower); 1 (Documents Division); 1 (Tower 5); 1 To and 1(Tower 9). We also have a
public color copier near the Circulation Desk.
The sculptured "Big Head" now observes daily library activities from a
new and more fittingly prominent location near the door to the serials
check-in area.
- 7/1/98 John Felts is new Networked Services Librarian
On June 15, John Felts joined the Faculty of Jackson Library in the newly
created position of Networked Services Librarian. The position was
developed in response to the rapidly growing virtual collections available
through the library's online system and will be part of the library's Electronic Information Resources
unit. Mr. Felts will provide instruction and training in the use of
networked electronic recources, assist in the maintenance of library Web
pages, and in the development and delivery of new library services via the
Web.
While new in this position, John Felts is a familiar face at UNCG, having served as a staff member for
four years in the Serials Department of Jackson Library and having earned his Master of Library
and Information Studies degree here. He also completed a Bachelor of Music degree at UNCG in 1985.
Prior to becoming the Networked Information Services Librarian, Mr. Felts served as Electronic Resources
Librarian at Averett College in Danville, Virginia. He has also worked as a librarian at Keystone Systems
in Raleigh, and at the Bernice Beinenstock Furniture Library in High Point.
- 6/16/98 Access to Three Popular Databases Changes
Cambridge Scientific Abstracts now provides
UNCG
affiliates improved local and remote access to three heavily used databases: Biological and
Medical
Sciences, Microcomputer Abstracts, and Sociological Abstracts. Formerly JACLIN Plus
offered
access to BasicBiosis, Microcomputer Abstracts, and Sociological Abstracts via First Search. Now,
by
offering Cambridge Scientific Abstracts to search these databases, the Library can provide even
broader
coverage in a more cost effective way. Biological and Medical Sciences includes citations from
Biologi$
Sciences, 1992-present, Biological Digest, 1989-present, Conference Papers Index, 1993-present,
Medline,
1993-present, and Toxline,1992-present. The coverage for Microcomputer Abstracts and Sociological
Abstracts remains essentially the same as when available through FirstSearch. Microcomputer
Abstracts
are listed under the category "Computer Science and Engineering"; Sociological Abstracts can be
found
under the category "Social Sciences"
- 6/11/98 Library's Web Page for Weather Information Featured as "Hot Site"
!
The Documents Division of Jackson Library was pleased to learn on June 10th
that their Weather
Information Web site is being featured as a "Hot Site" by
Starting Point. Starting Point is a commercial Web site that claims to
offer
"Everything you need to work the Web..." and which lists "Choice Web Sites" that
were voted upon by the general public while visiting the Starting Point Web pages.
Weather Information contains both local and global weather forecasts,
world wide climatic and severe weather information, as well as guidelines to
prepare for any kind major storm or natural disaster. Weather Information is
maintained by Amy Avers, a staff member in the Documents Division and graduate
student in UNCG's Department of Geography.
- 6/2/98 Access Method Changes for ERIC and PsychInfo Databases
Effective June 1, 1998, "OVID" has been discontinued as a database option in JACLIN
Plus. Formerly OVID was the access service for both
ERIC and for
PsychInfo
Now NC LIVE is offering these same databases through its statewide inititive to
provide access to electronic databases to multi-type libraries. Here at Jackson
Library the NC LIVE databases are listed alphabetically and by subject area along
with other electronic resources on the Library's Web page under Electronic Databases and
Indices but can be distinguished by the NC LIVE logo to the right of
the database name.
- 5/20/98 Library Loading Retrospective GPO Files to JACLIN Plus
During the Summer Session Jackson Library will add more than 36,000 bibliographic
records to the online catalog for older government documents housed in the
Documents Division. The retrospective coverage for these materials will span the
period from January, 1979 through December, 1988. Bibliographic records for
publications of the Government Printing Office (GPO) from January 1989 to date,
have been available in JACLIN Plus since August, 1994. For GPO materials published
before 1979 not indexed in the online catalog, there are other finding tools
and staff available to help you in the Documents Division of the
Library.
- 5/20/98 Modgie Jeffers Is First to Receive New Service Award!
Modgie Jeffers, Library Assistant in the Acquisitions Department of Jackson Library,
was named the first recipient of the Jackson Library Service Award at a ceremony
and tea held May 7 at Elliott University Center.
The Jackson Library Service Award was established in 1997, upon the retirement of
Martha Ransley, former head of the Circulation Department, "to recognize and reward
members of the SPA Library staff who provide outstanding leadership and service in
furthering the accomplishment of the mission the Library."
Mrs. Ransley and Library Director Doris Hulbert presented Mrs. Jeffers with a
plaque that will be displayed in the Library. Mrs. Jeffers has been a member of
the library staff for twenty-six years. She is advisor to UNCG's Zeta Phi Beta
Sorority and co-advisor to Phi Beta Sigma. Mrs. Jeffers is an alumna of Bennett
College where she earned a BA in English and a minor in library science.
The Library plans to grant the service award annually and fill the plaque with
names of those staff who have exemplified service beyond individual job
responsibilities and display qualities worthy of emulation.
- 5/20/98 JSTOR Offers Access to Electronic Archive of Scholarly Journals!
From the Library's Web page it is now possible for UNCG faculty, students,
and staff to have access to JSTOR,
which provides cover to cover full image electronic text of almost 70 core
scholarly journals. JSTOR is intended to serve as a searchable journal
archive, so the most current 3-5 years of each journal are not
available through this project. JSTOR's mission is to help the scholarly
community use information technology through building a reliable,
comprehensive, and easy to search archive of important scholarly journal
literature. There are also advantages to libraries which are concerned
about filling in gaps of existing collections, addressing preservation
issues, and reducing long-term costs of storing journal collections.
Take a look at the Library's Online
Journals link to learn more about the JSTOR project and to see other
electronic journals now available through JACLIN Plus.
- 5/19/98 Project MUSE Now Available to UNCG Constituents!
Jackson Library now has a subscription to
Project MUSE which provides access to 45 full text, full image electronic
scholarly journal titles published by the John Hopkins University Press. Any user
on campus or using UNCG PPP can access the collection of electronic journals in the
humanities, social sciences and mathematics. From the Library's home Web page
select the Online Journals link to
find project MUSE and to see other
recently acquired electronic journals. Project MUSE offers many features that
cannot be offered in the print versions of these same journals, such as Boolean
searching and subject indexing and retrieval with Library of Congress subject
headings. The electronic journals are also available earlier than their print
counterparts!
- 5/19/98 Library's Cello Music Web Pages Get Website Award!
The UNCG Cello Music Collections were awarded the Internet Cello
Society Website Award for March/April, 1998. Selection for "The I.C.S. Seal of Excellence" is
based on the content, cello relevance, creativity, and presentation style of a particular Website.
The Website is maintained by Carolyn Shankle of the Rare Books and Special Collections Division of
Jackson Library, which houses five major cello collections. These collections consist of the
works of Luigi Silva, Elizabeth Cowling, Rudolf Matz, Maurice Eisenberg, and Janos Scholz and
contain thousands of published and manuscript cello scores, along with other materials of interest
to cello scholars.
- 5/15/98 Planning to Remedy Overcrowding of Bookshelves Begins
Jackson Library
has run out of space for shelving new acquisitions. Three years ago a comprehensive shelving study
was undertaken which revealed there was room for only two more years of collection growth. Since
there is no way to expand the Library this year or in the near future, plans have been devloped to
create an on-campus shelving facility which will house materials expected to be low use items.
The facility will offer a secure and climate-controlled environment with compact shelving.
Jackson Library will provide patrons with regular pick-up and photocopying services of any
materials in the facility. Patrons also will still be able to look up the relocated books using
the online catalog, and materials will continue to circulate according the normal library policy.
Dr. Robert Galbreath, Assistant Library director for Collection Management, is overseeing the
project. The shift should be completed during the 1998-99 academic year.
- 4/22/98 Dr. William Finley Now Heads Special Collections
In March, the Special
Collections/University Archives Division of Jackson Library welcomed its new Head, William (Bill)
Finley. Bill comes to UNCG from the College of Charleston where he had been Special Collections
Librarian since 1992. Prior to this position, he was employed at Yale University working in the
Beinecke Library, primarily with their literary archives. He also has thirteen years' experience
teaching English at several colleges. In addition to the MLS degree, Bill holds a PhD in English
with primary focus on American Literature and a special interest in Southern Literature.
- 4/23/98 Access to JACLIN Web Online Catalog Increases
During Spring Semester
'98, public access to the World Wide Web version of JACLIN Plus has increased substantially within
the library. Eight PC workstations opposite the Circulation desk have been upgraded to faster
models, and four more late model workstations have been added to the first floor of Jackson
Library. The additional PCs have been placed near the InfoTrac Article Print Station outside the
Electronic CITI Lab and in the corridor between the old and the new sections of the building.
Four PCs have also been installed in the Tower Book Stacks on floors 2,3,4, and 6, thus bringing
the number of public access PCs for JACLIN and the World Wide Web to sixteen.
- 4/24/98 NC LIVE HAS ARRIVED!!!
Today marks the official "kickoff" of the NC LIVE initiative! The initials
stand for North Carolina LIbraries for Virtual Education, which is a statewide
electronic project that will provide equal access to a range of electronic
information in libraries throughout North Carolina. The resources in NC
LIVE are available to all the people of the state through a partnership of
various types of libraries.
Included in the initial stage of this project are 58 libraries in the Community
College System, 16 institutions in the UNC System, 75
public library systems through the State Library, and 36 independent colleges and
universities.
Links to NC LIVE electronic databases, including over a million full text
journal articles, are now available through the Web version of JACLIN Plus. Just
click on the Electronic Databases and
Indices entry from the Library's Home Page. The NC LIVE logo can be
seen to the far right of any entry that is part of the project. Access is limited
to users on campus, except for some databases that require UNCG ID validation.
- 1/15/98 Try Our New and Improved Access to MEDLINE!
The telnet version of MEDLINE via FirstSearch was discontinued as an option with the start of Spring
Semester '98. This change was made to promote a more up to date and user friendly version now available
on the World Wide Web, and to save the Library money on search charges. Anyone on campus affiliated
with UNCG can still access Medline using the Web version of JACLIN Plus, either from the the PCs in the
Reference Department, or from the PCs in the Electronic CITI, or those just outside the CITI opposite
the Circulation Desk. From these machines you can access either the WinSpirs or the WebSprirs versions
of MEDLINE. The WebSpirs version can also be used from any networked PC or MAC on campus. Additionally,
remote access to MEDLINE is available to everyone via Pub
Med and the Internet Grateful Med.
- 1/8/98 Remote Access to Web Version of InfoTrac Now Available!
InfoTrac is now available via the Web to all users currently affiliated with UNCG. Any person with a
current UNCG ID can access InfoTrac via the Web from anywhere in the world. This is a significant
expansion of access for UNCG's most popular databases. And, unlike many of our other database offerings,
there are no simultaneous user access restrictions.
To check it out, go to our database page - http://library.uncg.edu:83/dbs/dbtitle.html - and choose any
of the Infotrac databases (PsychInfo, Expanded Academic Index, or General Business File).
If you have questions about Web access to InfoTrac, contact Tim Bucknall, Electronic Information
Resources Librarian, at 334-4238, or send e-mail.
- 12/9/97 New Form of Access to Nursing and Allied Health Database, CINAHL
Access to CINAHL via the Internet using FirstSearch will be discontinued on December 17, the day
after finals conclude. The database will be available via WebSpirs CINAHL which offers more features
and is less costly for the library to provide. To access CINAHL select
Electronic Databases and Indices from the
Web version of JACLIN Plus.
- 12/8/97 Robert James New Head, Circulation Department
On November 1, Jackson Library welcomed Robert James as its new Head, Circulation Department.
Robert came to UNCG via Chapel Hill where he worked for the last twelve years. During the past
eight years he had served as the Assistant Circulation Department Head in Davis Library. Prior to his
employment at UNC- Chapel Hill, Robert had also worked as a supervisor in the Circulation Department of
Library West at the University of Florida, Gainesville. If you have any questions about circulation policies at
Jackson Library, please contact Robert at 334-5452 or send
e-mail. Click on "Circulation
Department and Current Periodicals/Reserves Division" to see general information on services and
policies.
- 10/30/97 Electronic Journals Now Available in JACLIN Plus!
During the week of October 27th, a new feature for accessing electronic
journals was activated on the "Library Services" menu in the Web
version of JACLIN Plus. This
service, called "Online Journals,"
offers full text for almost 1,500 journals. Most, however cover
only the last few years of a particular title.
All titles on the list are available on campus, and some from home.
Many - those labeled OCLC - are part of a trial that will end on December
31, 1997. To help the Library assess the usefulness of the electronic
journals being offered, an
Online Journal Evaluation Form is
available with the alphabetical listing of titles. Try using these
journals from the Library's home page, and
let us know what you think!
- 10/17/97 Rick Anderson New Head Acquisitions Librarian
Effective October 1, Rick Anderson became the new Head Acquisitions Librarian at Jackson Library.
His experience includes working in the Acquisitions Department at Brigham Young University and
working for Yankee Book Peddler, a major book vendor.
If you have any questions or problems related to ordering books, please call Rick at 334-5281,
or send him e-mail.
- 9/19/97 CINAHL now Available through FirstSearch
CINAHL, a database that indexes and abstracts approximately 900 journals
in nursing and allied health, is now available through FirstSearch. Look
under "Electronic Databases and Indices" in the Web version of JACLIN Plus
or under "JACLIN Options" then "FirstSearch" in the telnet version.
Indexing coverage is from 1982 to present. See a Reference Librarian
for further information regarding this database.
- 6/24/97 Three Databases no Longer Available via FirstSearch
Biography Index, Wilson Business Abstracts, and WorldScope are no longer available from the JACLIN
Option FirstSearch. Equivalent topical coverage for each of these databases can be found as
follows: Biography Index - use Britannica Online, or InfoTrac; Wilson Business
Abstracts - use ABI/Inform on CD-ROM, InfoTrac General Business File or Wilson
Business Abstracts in print; Worldscope - use Compact Disclosure on CD-ROM. The library
has made these changes in order to provide the best service in the most cost effective way.
- 5/14/97 ERIC Database no longer available in FirstSearch
As of May 15,1997, the ERIC database will no longer be accessible through FirstSearch. However, it
will still be available through OVID under the JACLIN Options menu in Information Gateway. It is
also available on CD-ROM in the Library.
- 5/8/97 UNCG Library Web Page Ranked Among Top Ten Sites!
News and Newpapers Online, a web page
created by Cathy Carr of Electronic Information Resouces in Jackson Library,
was recently named one of the Top Ten Reference Web Sites on the Internet. The April 15
issue of The Library Journal listed each recipient of the ten awards.
Selections were made using such criteria as: sites that provide authoritative
information, frequent updates, easy navigability, and which are a free
service. News and Newspapers Online offers links to the world's
electronic daily newspapers. Full text is available for most. The
newspapers are easy to find using an alphabetical listing by country
grouped for several geographical regions. (There is even a resource from
Antarctica!) Since Cathy Carr left Jackson Library in January, Justin R.
Ervin, has been maintaining this web page. To connect to News and
Newspapers Online type the URL http://www.uncg.edu/lib/news/
- 4/22/97 Expanded Printing and E-Mail Capabilites Now
in JACLIN Plus
Since the JACLIN Informaton Gateway interface was introduced in January,
1995, there have been just two ways in which information could be printed:
1) Do a screen print by pressing the F2 key on a VT terminal - or from a
PC using the Print Screen key. 2) Use the "Print" command under "Options"
when viewing a bibliographic record. When the "Print" command was given
it would always print the record in a brief "Holdings" format which
includes author, title, edition, and imprint information along with the
location, status, and call number.
Now it is also possible to print a list of bibliographic citations,
selecting the individual numbers on a "hit" list, or a range of numbers,
or all on the list, up to 50 citations. It is also possible when viewing
a bibliographic record to select a format other than "Holdings", if so
desired, by selecting "Print Options" from the Options menu. For example,
the "Detailed" format would give you FULL bibliographic information with
holdings and status information.
Additionally, with the expanded printing capability you may e-mail
bibliographic citations from JACLIN Plus to your own account or to anyone
who might be interested in a particular topic. To do this, it is
necessary to select the Options menu, then "Print to File". Next from the
Options menu you will need to select "Procedures" then "E-Mail Search
Results". You will be prompted for an e-mail address.
Fuller written instructions for how to use the new extended print
capability are available in the information stands next to the Reference
Department and next to the JACLIN Plus terminals in the Library. Give it a
try!
- 3/26/97 OVID Databases Now Available on JACLIN Plus
Two very popular databases, ERIC and PSYCHINFO are now also available to
UNCG constituents under the JACLIN Options menu in the Information Gateway
version of JACLIN Plus. To access these data bases highlight OVID, then press
return. You will be prompted for your UNCG ID. Currently ERIC is also available on CD-ROM in the
Reference Department and through FirstSearch in JACLIN Plus. PSYCHINFO is also available on CD-ROM
in the Reference Department and through InfoTrac in JACLIN Plus. The availability of the OVID
interface for these databases is part of a year long experiment being conducted by the UNC System to
determine which databases would be most user friendly and economical to share between all 16
campuses. We would be interested in hearing from you as to how you rate the various kinds of access
to these two databases.
- 3/11/97 Try JACLIN Plus on the Web!
A World Wide Web version of JACLIN Plus
(Jackson Library Information Network) is now available on six workstations
in the Library and
through the campus network. The new Web interface offers the advantages of hyper
links to related topics directly from a bibliographic record and easy
access to other pertinent resources on the Internet.
Eventually, the workstations in the library will be capable of providing
access to all the journal citation and full text databases that the
library offers, including CD-ROM products. Work is in progress to obtain
this functionality. Access to JACLIN Plus through the traditional
Information Gateway interface on the library's terminals will continue
until the Web version has all the capabilities that the Gateway version
can provide.
- 2/24/97 SuperLab Now Open!
Chancellor Patricia Sullivan salutes the students and invites them to visit the new SuperLab
in Jackson Library. SuperLab, the result of team work throughout the University to meet the
students' need for more open access computing, is open all hours the Library is open.
Currently there are 60 DOS machines and 30 Macs available in SuperLab. The plan is to
provide access eventually to 140 workstations in SuperLab.
- 2/18/97 JACKSON LIBRARY'S NEW NATIONAL TRADE DATA BANK LINK
Once again, Jackson Library is providing UNCG with a direct link to the
National Trade Data Bank web site. This link will allow UNCG students,
faculty, and staff to
search the huge NTDB files in a much more convenient manner than ever before.
The National Trade Data Bank is a U.S. Department of Commerce data file of more than
2,000,000 individual trade documents, comprising well over one gigabyte of information. It
contains import and export information and statistics on virtually all commodities handled by
U.S. traders, and also provides country demographic, political, and economic information for
virtually all nations of the world. There are even files of export contacts overseas and in
the U.S. The database can be searched by text word or by commodity number.
The NTDB is the most popular U.S. government database and it is updated monthly with
new statistics and other information. The site is linked to the Jackson Library Government
Documents pages of the Jackson Library web pages. The URL address of the NTDB is:
http://www.stat-usa.gov/BEN/databases.html
Anyone searching from a UNCG address will be allowed in without a password. We encourage
all faculty and students to give this amazing database a try.
- 2/3/97 NEW CAPABILITY ADDED TO BROWSE JACLIN INDEX FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS
Now in JACLIN's Information Gateway catalog upon doing an unsuccessful author, title, or subject search,
a message appears stating, "No matches on 'word searched.' Your entry would be here." The message is
highlighted by a bar of light directly in the index where the unsuccessful search would have appeared.
Thus, it is easier to determine whether a typographical error occurred, the wrong term was used, or if
there are no books available for a particlular author, title or subject. Once in the index it is also
possible to scroll forwards or backwards from the highlighted bar as far as desired. To return to the
previous level of activity in the online catalog, the B (for BACK) command still works as before.
Keyword searching does not offer this feature of browsing the index.
- 1-9-97 ALERT! Software for Renewing you own Books in JACLIN Plus
has a Bug!
Please note that there is a known bug in the "Borrower Information"
software which is listed under the Options menu in JACLIN. When using
BorrowerInformation to renew a book on the same day that it is due
some borrowers experience a "register dump" that throws them out of the
JACLIN program. However, the book has been renewed successfully. If this
problem happens to you, it will be necessary to call the Circulation Desk
(334-5304) or come into the library if you have additional titles that
need to be renewed on the same date. To avoid the problem, please renew
your books a day before they are actually due. This problem has been
reported to the library's software vendor with a request to have it corrected
as soon as possilble.
- 12/17/96 JACLIN will be unavailable from 8:00 am Saturday,
December 21, until 6:00 pm Sunday, December 22, while a software upgrade
is taking place.
- 12/17/96 SEARCH RESULT SORTING AVAILABLE IN JACLIN PLUS
Now it is possible in JACLIN's Information Gateway catalog to sort the
results of any search by author, title, chronological, or reverse
chronological order. To get this option, you must be at the second level
hit list under an AUTHOR, TITLE, or SUBJECT search. Look
under the OPTIONS menu and select "Sort." If you wish to retain a
particular type of sort for additional searches, you can select "Default
Sort" which will apply for the remainder of your session. In a KEYWORD search it is possible to go to the OPTIONS menu directly and
select "Sort" when the initial search results display. If you do not
select a particular sort, the system will use its own default of
alphabetical by author for author and subject searches, alphabetical by
title for title searches, and sequential by database entry number for
keyword searches.
- 12/17/96 WEB VERSION OF JACLIN PLUS ON THE HORIZON
During
Spring Semester, 1997, several PCs will be introduced into the Library's
catalog area to provide access to the new Web interface of JACLIN Plus.
At this stage, the web based catalog will be experimental and lack some of
the functionality found in the Information Gateway version. Therefore,
access to JACLIN via the Library's terminals will coexist with PC based
access for some time into the future.
- 12/17/96 INFOTRAC NOW AVAILABLE ON THE WEB
InfoTrac
Online now has a newer web based version called InfoTrac SearchBank.
Both the traditional character based InfoTrac Online and the Windows based
SearcBank are available to those affiliated with UNCG through UNCGnet. To
access SearchBank, go to the Library's Home Page
http://www.uncg.edu/lib/ and select Infotrac SearchBank from there.
The same databases that are in InfoTrac Online are also available, i.e.
Expanded Academic Index, General Business File, and
PsychInfo. The only difference other than the user interface is that
journal holdings information for titles held by Jackson Library is not yet
available in the SearchBank version.
- 12-17-96 BRITANNICA ONLINE NEW DATABASE AT UNCG.
During
Fall Semester '96, BritannicaOnline was made available both through
JACLIN Plus and via the Library's Web page. The JACLIN Plus version is
strictly character based and can be accessed under the JACLIN Options menu
in Information Gateway. The Web version can be found at
http://www.uncg.edu/lib/ BritannicaOnline is the online version of
the Encyclopedia Britannica, Book of the Year, the Britannica Index, and
Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, 10th ed., all combined into one
database. The 1997 version of BritannicaOnline is now available.
It contains updated articles, a total of more than 4,200 graphics, over
5,000 related Internet links, thumbnail images in the text, and a
spell-checking device for the searches. Try it!
