Asheville/Charlotte Programs
Since 1993, the MLIS degree offered through UNCG has been available in both Charlotte and Asheville through various formats of course and program presentation. The NCREN system has enabled the LIS faculty to offer courses on the UNCC campus and on the campus of UNCA through interactive television. These courses are supplemented by on site courses delivered by the UNCG faculty and adjunct instructors, and web-based courses.
Admission to the MLIS program is through the Graduate School. Requirements for admission, program requirements, and graduation requirements are the same for students taking courses at all three sites.
The Asheville program is limited to twenty-four students, and courses are sequenced so that students will complete the thirty-six hour program in three years. The Department will begin accept application for the Fall 2008 cohort group in spring 2008. While it is impossible for us to duplicate the full range of courses scheduled at the Greensboro and Charlotte sites, every attempt is made to ensure a broad array of educational experiences to prepare librarians and information specialists in a diverse context. The department's contact person in Asheville is Ms. Barb Svenson (bsvenson@bulldog.unca.edu ) 828-250-3868.
The program in Charlotte is offered principally on the UNCC campus with some courses offered at other sites in the city of Charlotte or in close proximity to Charlotte. These courses are supplemented with courses offered through the web with class meetings throughout the term. Dr. Barbara Feldman (bffeld@comporium.net ) coordinates the MLIS program in Charlotte.
