Scott McCloud points out that comics (and one may infer, graphic novels) are a powerful tool for conveying the literary experience to a generation of readers comfortable with television and computers. He argues that here is a new visual literacy developing. In my view, graphic novels take advantage of this emerging literacy. The format also works for reluctant readers who take more easily to titles that combine lots of graphic with text. (p. 23) McCloud, Scott. "Understanding Comics: the Invisible Art."
