School of Education Department of Library and Information Studies Position 1: Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor in School Library Media Download The Department of Library and Information Studies invites applications and nominations for an assistant or associate professor position with expertise in school library media. This nine-month, tenure track position becomes effective August 1, 2007. Salary is commensurate with qualifications. Summer teaching is normally available as an option. Responsibilities: Teaching, research, and service in the following areas: school library media programs, information skills curriculum, and children and young adult services. Qualifications: An earned doctorate in library and information studies or related field, an MLIS from an ALA accredited program, demonstrated potential for research and publication, demonstrated teaching potential, and appropriate experience in school library media programs. Commitment to distance education and flexibility in a variety of delivery modes is an essential component of the position. Must be eligible for Media Coordinator license (076) in North Carolina. The department has an MLIS enrollment of over 250 that includes delivery of the program through the campus Tele-learning Center or via the Internet to students in Charlotte and Asheville. The American Library Association accredits the MLIS program, and the school library media specialist curriculum is approved through the AASL/ALA/NCATE accreditation process. UNCG, with an enrollment of 16,600 students, is located in the Triad area of North Carolina and is one of four doctoral-granting institutions of the sixteen-campus University system. UNCG places strong emphasis on effective teaching as well as research and service to the community.
