LIS Kickoff Party a Success!
Added: September 10, 2008
On the afternoon of Tuesday, August 19, the LIS Department, in conjunction with the University Libraries, hosted a series of events to kick off the new school year.
First, new students were invited to come to the LIS Department offices in the Curry Building, where they had the opportunity to meet faculty members and current students, as well as orient themselves to the department itself.
The group was then joined by Hermann Trojanowski, who works in the department of University Archives and Manuscripts at UNCG’s Jackson Library. Hermann, a graduate of the UNCG LIS program, led participants on a walking tour of the UNCG campus. Along the way, Hermann provided historical information about the university and various buildings on campus. One of the highlights of the tour, however, was hearing the stories of the three ghosts that haunt certain buildings on campus.
After the tour, the group gathered with faculty and staff from the LIS Department and the University Libraries in the Hodges Reading Room in Jackson Library, where they received a warm welcome from Rosann Bazirjian, Dean of the University Libraries, Lee Shiflett, Head of the LIS Department, and Kathy Shields, President of the Library and Information Studies Student Association. While enjoying the refreshments provided, students, faculty, and staff had the opportunity to meet one another, get reacquainted, or catch up after the long summer. The Kickoff Party was enjoyed by all and was a great way to start off a new semester!
