LIS Assistantships, Scholarships, and Paid Internships

Graduate Assistantships

Half-time assistantships involve 20 hours of research, administrative, and or general departmental assistance per week. Application forms for assistantships are filed with the LIS Department. Selections are usually made in the Spring for the following academic year.

Please complete and submit a graduate assistantship application by March 31 for assistantships beginning the following Fall. Full admission to the LIS graduate degree program is required for an assistantship (must have overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0). Graduate assistants are expected to carry at least 6 hours of course work per semester.

Additional GA opportunities may also be available at the Teaching Resources Center.

Departmental Scholarships

ACE Scholars Program
The Academic and Cultural Enrichment (ACE) Scholars Program program is a joint effort between the University Libraries and the LIS Department. The goal of the scholarship program is to recruit students from under-represented ethnic minority groups into the profession.

The Mary Frances Kennon Johnson Scholarship
To be awarded annually to a student or students, majoring in the field of Library Education/Instructional Media.

The M. Sangster Parrott Fellowship
A fellowship for a student entering the Master of Library and Information Studies degree program at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

The Helen Thayer Bowling Scholarship
The scholarship will benefit needy and deserving students of library science who (1) demonstrate financial need and (2) declared an interest in pursuing a course of study in library science.

The Dr. Marilyn L. Miller Scholarship

The H.W. Wilson Foundation Scholarship
