About US

UNCG is proud to have the oldest accredited Masters program of Library and Information Studies in the state. Throughout its history, the program has maintained a high standard of excellence, with a current enrollment of more than 350 students from around the world. The carefully planned curriculum of research, theory, and application seeks to prepare students for the challenges of information management in the 21st century.

The MLIS degree program is accredited by the American Library Association and is approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction for the Licensure of school library personnel. Graduates also qualify for the North Carolina Public Library Certification.

The LIS department has nine full time faculty members with expertise and experience in a wide range of librarianship and information studies. This distinguished faculty is committed to the education and mentorship of information specialists as they prepare for careers and positions of leadership in their chosen field. While maintaining a low professor to student ratio and intimate learning environment, the program also provides excellent library and technology facilities

For students who are better served by distance education, UNCG offer courses to students on the main campus of The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and The University of North Carolina at Asheville.
