Tell us about the accomplishments you are most proud of in terms of your academic, professional accomplishments, etc. (brag points for us to use in other words)
I received the N.C. Department of Veterans Affairs full tuition scholarship I graduated early from college. I Got through in 3 ½ years. It should have been three, but I changed my major.
Give us a brief bio of yourself including your educational and professional background.
I am originally from a small town in eastern N.C. I am currently in my first semester and really enjoying it! I got my B.A. degree last December from UNCG in English. I worked at a health care agency for about ½ a year before I decided that I wanted to go back to school to get my MLIS. While working on my MLIS I am working as a part time nanny and at a nursery. I love working with children and hope to one day be an elementary school media specialist.
Do you have a favorite saying or motto you live by? If not, please give us a concise one or two sentence blurb.
“If you don’t know where you are going, then how do you expect to get there?” This reminds me that it is important to set goals and then really strive to achieve them.
What role does your education and/or professional position play in applying library and information studies for the benefit of others and society in general?
Even though this is only my first semester in the program, I am learning in all of the classes that I am currently taking how selfless you really have to be to be a librarian. Before beginning this program I thought that you had to just have a love of books, but I have since learned that you have got to have a love of people and lucky for me, I do! Being a librarian is really all about service to others and the community as a whole. One thing that I have learned from my professors here at UNCG is about group work. It is very beneficial in my classes because it shows you how you have got to work with others and share information to get something accomplished which is a lot of what library and information studies is all about.
