How are you a member of the UNCG LIS family?

I am in my second semester of the Masters in Library and Information Studies Program. I started the program and working for the department as a graduate assistant in January 2007. This semester I am working for Dr. Anthony Chow and the LIS Office.

Tell us about the accomplishments you are most proud of in terms of your academic, professional accomplishments, etc. (brag points for us to use in other words)

During my time in the program, I am most proud of my work on Careers and Professional Development section of the LIS website which is expected to launch this autumn. Also, I am pleased to have assisted Dr. Chow with the reading program, “For the Love of Books” at Jesse Wharton Elementary School.

Give us a brief bio of yourself including your educational and professional background.

I grew up in a small town in southern New Hampshire called Pelham. I attended The Derryfield School, a college preparatory high-school in Manchester New Hampshire. In 2003 I graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Bachelors of Arts in Economics and a collateral field in Education. During college I studied in France at an international language school, La Centre de Linguistique Applique in Besancon, France and also took courses abroad for a semester in Brighton, England. I spent eight months of college volunteering for AmeriCorps, New Hampshire Reads - a program to help under-privileged kids learn to read. My professional background includes business and research working for First Citizens Federal Credit Union and Chatham Partners, a market research and strategic consulting firm. Prior to attending graduate school, I worked for an academic art library to gain some library experience. Currently I am employed as a graduate assistant and in Smith Library at High Point University as a part-time technical service assistant.

Do you have a favorite saying or motto you live by? If not, please give us a concise one or two sentence blurb.

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” by Eleanor Roosevelt.

What role does your education and/or professional position play in applying library and information studies for the benefit of others and society in general?

As mentioned above, I have a concentration in Education and volunteered for New Hampshire Reads. These two experiences contributed to my decision to become a librarian and facilitate learning among others. Library and Information Science combines many of my interests including service; research; organizing; and my inquisitive, reflective nature.

Favorite food and drink:

Ice-cream and mashed potatos.

Favorite song or musical group:

Right now some of my favorite groups are Rascal Flatts, Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Jack Johnson, and Bruce Springstein.

Favorite movie or television show:

Scrubs, The Office, Law and Order.

One person you would choose to be marooned on a desert island with....

My mom.

Anything else you would like to say to the rest of the UNCG LIS community on our Web site?

Looking forward to seeing you at UNCG this year!
