How are you a member of the UNCG LIS family?

I joined the UNCG LIS family in January of 2007 and have enjoyed getting to know its members – both faculty and fellow students. It has been a pleasure to be a part of a community of people who share my love of serving others and connecting people with information. Also, by joining LISSA I have had the opportunity to get to know more people passionate about LIS. The LISSA workshops I’ve attended have been fun and, most importantly, have broadened my knowledge of the LIS field.

Tell us about the accomplishments you are most proud of in terms of your academic, professional accomplishments, etc. (brag points for us to use in other words)

I am most proud of the fact that I am successfully achieving an MLIS while balancing working part-time and being a wife and mother of two school-aged daughters.

Give us a brief bio of yourself including your educational and professional background.

I graduated from Averett University in 1993 with a B.S. in Middle School Education (grades 4-8). I have taught in both public and private schools in grades Kindergarten through Post-Graduate. While in the education field I’ve taught in the classroom as well as managing a computer lab.

Do you have a favorite saying or motto you live by? If not, please give us a concise one or two sentence blurb.

One of my favorite sayings is: Carpe Diem. I want to seize every opportunity and experience as much as I can everyday.

What role does your education and/or professional position play in applying library and information studies for the benefit of others and society in general?

I feel that my studies in MLIS at UNCG are preparing me to “meet the needs of the user” and joyfully serve others in an information setting. In each unique class I am being introduced to innovative ways of meeting the needs of patrons whether as a special librarian, manager, or media specialist.

Favorite food and drink:

Food: Mexican food
Drink: A glass of Shiraz

Favorite song or musical group:

How Great Thou Art.

Favorite movie or television show:

Movie: Pride and Prejudice (PBS version).

Anything else you would like to say to the rest of the UNCG LIS community on our Web site?

My most cherished personal accomplishment: completing the Triple Trails Marathon in Oct. 2007.
