The External Review Panel from ALA’s Committee on Accreditation visited the UNCG LIS program on February 15-19 2008. The members met with students, graduates of the program, employers of the graduates, administrators, faculty members, and others to assess the MLIS program and its compliance with the Standards for Accreditation of the American Library Association. Members of the panel visited and met with people at both the Greensboro and Charlotte campuses where the program is offered. The preliminary assessment of the program given by the panel members was generally positive and an objective assessment of the program. The LIS department will receive a draft report of the visit by March 10th and will be given an opportunity to respond. The report will be submitted to the Committee on Accreditation for its assessment and we will receive the decision at the ALA Conference in Anaheim this June.
We thank everyone in the LIS community for all of the hard work over the past two years and, in particular, the critical show of support from everyone during the recent visit. We deeply appreciate your commitment to the program’s future.
