UNCG LIS Student Christie Peters is training to compete in the Capital of Texas Triathlon in Austin, TX on May 25. The Olympic-length endurance event requires participants to complete a 1.5 K open water swim, a 40K bike ride, and a 10K run.
For Christie, however, her first triathlon is not about winning, but about supporting a cause. She is entering the event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training. The largest endurance sports training program in the world, Team in Training provides personalized, professional training for its volunteers to compete in marathons, half-marathons, triathlons, and century (100-mile) bike rides. In return, volunteers raise money for the charity.
Christie is seeking the support of the LIS community in her efforts to raise $4300 to compete in the triathlon in Texas. 75% of all the money that she raises will go directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, to help fund the search for a cure for blood cancer. The remaining 25% goes to Team in Training cover registration fees, travel, training, and other expenses for participants.
If you or someone you know would like to support Christie and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, please visit her website at: http://www.active.com/donate/tntwnc/cpeters to find out how you can donate. She will also be holding several fundraising events, so please check her website often for these details.
