The Mary Frances Kennon Johnson Scholarship Fund was begun in 1975 by the Library Education/Instructional Media Alumni Association of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and friends of Mrs. Johnson.
The Fund honors Mrs. Johnson, Associate Professor in the School of Education, UNCG, and member of the faculty of the Library Education/Instructional Media Center. Mrs. Johnson joined the UNCG Faculty in September, 1962.
The Fund is to be invested at the discretion of the Board of Trustees of the Endowment Fund of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro for the support and maintenance of the scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Only income earned from this fund is to be awarded annually to a student or students, majoring in the field of Library Education/Instructional Media.
The recipients of the awards under this scholarship will be selected by the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Scholarship Committee in conjunction with the Student Financial Aid Office of the University.
Additional gifts may be added to this scholarship fund at any time, by anyone interested. All gifts made to the fund shall be irrevocable.
PROCEDURES Each spring semester the Admissions Committee of the Department of Library and Information Studies meets to select students who meet the following criteria:
Once the most qualified student is selected, the Chair of the Department contacts the student to see whether or not the student will accept the fellowship. If the student does plan to accept the fellowship, the Department submits the recommendation to the Office of Student Financial Aid Scholarship Committee. If the Committee agrees with the recommendation, they will send notification in writing to the student.
