The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (LLC) is engaged in cross-cultural scholarship, teaching, and service within diverse local and global connections. We offer seven language programs, culminating in three Bachelor of Arts degrees (French, German, Spanish B.A.), K-12 Teaching Licensures (French, Spanish) a Master of Arts degree (M.A.), and Master of Education degrees (M.Ed. French, Spanish). The Department also offers a 15- hour Post-Baccalaureate certificate in Advanced Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultural Studies and a French and Francophone Studies Concentration. The Department actively participates in foreign language studies consortia within the UNC distance education system, as well as interdisciplinary programs throughout the College of Arts and Sciences, particularly the International and Global Studies Program. We also offer an exceptional array of study abroad and service learning opportunities. The departmental majors also provide excellent preparations for graduate school, especially when double majoring in disciplines including history, philosophy, geography, sociology, music or art history.
