Spanish language and Hispanic culture, Latino culture and politics, service learning, African American-Latino relations, Spanish for educators
Personal Statement
I have taught Spanish in the U.S. since 1995, and before that taught English as a Second Language in China, Spain, and the U.S. I have also worked as an editor for the University of Chicago and various publishers and authors.
Selected Professional Achievements
- Multicultural Professor of the Year, 2010-11, awarded by the Multicultural Student Center, Division of Student Affairs, North Carolina A&T State University
- Director, Bridging the Divide: African American-Latino Unity Symposium, March 2010 and February 2011, North Carolina A&T State University
- Award of Excellence, 2006-07, awarded by the Outstanding Teacher Recognition Program of the University of California, San Diego
- Developer and Coordinator, North Carolina A&T Dept. of Foreign Languages program to mentor Hispanic students in Greensboro public schools, 1998-2000; 2008-11
