B.A. in German and English, University of Innsbruck
Austrian Fulbright Scholar
Carla Fitz grew up in Dornbirn, a small town in the western part of Austria. After focusing on economics in high school she decided to change paths and study English and German for a teacher's degree at the university of Innsbruck. There she encountered a good mixture of German and Anglophone literature, culture, and linguistics studies combined with didactics and pedagogy. During several internships in various middle and high schools she gathered valuable teaching experience. At the end of her studies, she applied for a Fulbright foreign language teaching assistantship in order to experience the culture and language she will teach about first hand, and was chosen to spend ten months teaching German here at UNCG. After this time, she will return home and continue writing her Magister (Master's) thesis in English linguistics about multilingualism and language awareness, before starting her career as high school teacher of English and German.
