About the Department

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics consists of two divisions: Mathematics Division, and Statistics Division, and a Statistical Consulting Center. Its faculty is active in research. The department has more than 300 students majoring in the following undergraduate degree and graduate degree programs.

BA in Mathematics BS in Mathematics with four concentrations: Pure Mathematics Applied Mathematics Computer Science Statistics

BS and BA in Mathematics with Secondary Teaching Certification MA in Mathematics with specialties available in: Pure Mathematics Applied Mathematics Applied Statistics

New Program - Ph.D. in Computational Mathematics (PDF)

The department also offers a Mathematics minor for underegraduate students, and a Statistics minor for graduate students.

Mathematics and Statistics has defined a mission statement with clear goals. The department follows this mission statement to provide all three of the University's major functions - teaching, research and service.

Departmental Changes

In the summer of 2006 the Mathematical Sciences Department split into two different departments. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics continues to occupy this web space (http://www.uncg.edu/mat/). The Department of Computer Science has been relocated to http://www.uncg.edu/cmp/.
