Department of Mathematics and Statistics

Proposed Program Changes

In 2011, the department recommended two major changes to the graduate program at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

The first change was to remove the distinction between the MA in Pure Mathematics and the MA in Applied Mathematics and to create a unified concentration: MA in Mathematics. It is expected that details of this change will appear in the 2012-2013 Graduate Bulletin. Until then, please consult our proposed changes to MA document.

The second change we proposed was a significant restructuring of the PhD program to include more options for qualifying exams, to better spell out expectations for completion of exams, and to clarify the expectations for the computational/programming project component of the PhD in Computational Mathematics. Details should appear in the 2012-2013 Graduate Bulletin, but until then can be found here.
