Student Paper competition

All RMSC talks by undergraduate and graduate students enter the student paper competition. There are two categories for the student paper competition: Research presented by undergraduate students and research presented by graduate students.

At the beginning of each session, the session chair chooses three to five (faculty) judges from the audience. The session chair can also act as a judge. Each judge evaluates the talks in four categories (Significance of Work, Clarity of Speech, Visual Aids, Overall Impression of Presentation) on a scale from 0 (Poor) to 10 (Excellent). The scores in these categories are then added up to give a total presentation score. The judge may also leave additional comments to the competition committee on the evaluation form. At the conclusion of the session, the forms should be returned to the session chair who hands the forms to the competition committee.

After compiling each contestant's competition score, the competition scores will be ranked from highest to smallest in the Undergraduate and Graduate categories. In case of ties, the judge's comments can be used to break them. The top three competition scores in the Undergraduate Research category will be awarded the prize (the exact amount is TBA). The highest score in the Graduate Research category will be awarded the grand prize (the exact amount is TBA).

The Student Paper competition is sponsored by the North Carolina Chapter of the American Statistical Association.
