Application/Interview Instructions
- Submit evidence (i.e., two official transcripts) of completing an undergraduate degree program in music education with a “B” average or better.
- Submit evidence of acceptable music performance abilities, as reflected by transcript from accredited university or college school of music or music department.
- Submit evidence of Teaching Licensure in Music, verifying that required standardized tests for licensure have been passed satisfactorily (e.g., PRAXIS, NTE, or other nationally recognized teaching exam). To receive Advanced Licensure in Music upon successful completion of degree program, the candidate must have taught for three or more years.
- Submit three recommendations from former professors, employers, or persons well acquainted with applicant’s academic potential .
- The above items should be included with the application to The Graduate School.
- An interview with the Music Education Faculty is recommended. Contact Dr. Patricia Sink.
Summers-only
Master of Music in Music Education is also available.
This program has a special summer session that is coordinated with the public school schedule so that teachers can attend classes.
- Advancement of music teaching skills and knowledge
- Assistance in developing a portfolio for National Board Certification (NBPTS) in Music
- Achieve Graduate Advance NC DPI Licensure in Music Education
- North Carolina teachers receive 10% salary increase
Completion of the degree in three years:
- Three summer sessions
- Enrollment in two portfolio development projects (Fall or Spring semester)
- One course offered online (Fall or Spring semester)
- Allows continuous registration
