School of Music Celebrates the Grand Reopening of Aycock Auditorium
Join the School of Music for a unique musical experience on Saturday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m. with the Collage Concert. Featuring performances by our faculty and students, the concert celebrates the reopening of our treasured Aycock Auditorium following its 2-year, multi-million dollar renovation and will mark the first time that UNCG performers will take the stage in a very special and unusual concert.
Collage will feature performances by the Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, University Chorale and Chamber Singers, Jazz Ensemble, African Drumming Ensemble, Old Time Folk Music Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Opera Theatre with the Casella Sinfonietta, Composition Students, Market Street Brass, EastWind Ensemble, Faculty Jazz Combo, Faculty Piano Duo, Sextet by the members of our voice faculty and the debut of the McIver Ensemble. The music will flow seamlessly through each half of the concert, supported by special lighting.
Tickets are $10 Adults, $6 Seniors and $4 Students. All proceeds will benefit the School of Music Scholarship Fund. Visiting Artists in September
We will welcome Frédéric Lacroix, fortepiano, on Tuesday, September 16, 7:30 p.m. in the Organ Hall. Lacroix, the 2008 Concert Scholar of the Westfield Center for Historical Keyboard Instruments, will perform Beethoven's three sonatas, Op. 31, (1801-02) on a replica of a Viennese fortepiano. He has performed throughout the United States and Canada and in Taiwan. Recent performances include appearances with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Cornell Chamber Orchestra, Ottawa Symphony Orchestra and the Ensemble Fusions.

UNCG Asian Studies Program and the Indian Association of the Triad present an Evening of Indian Classical Music with Hemant Pendse, voice, Harshad Kanetkar, tabla, and Vidyadhar Kulkarni, harmonium, on Friday, September 19, 7:30 p.m., in the Recital Hall.
Rousseau Saxophone Celebration Arrives in October
The School of Music and Saxophone Studio invite you to join us October 3-5 for a weekend of concerts, master classes and presentations honoring legendary saxophonist Eugene Rousseau for his continuing contributions to the saxophone. Highlights of the celebration include an opening night gala concert with the UNCG Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Steve Haines, featuring guest artists Ralph Bowen, Thomas Walsh, Jack Wilkins and Eugene Rousseau; a master class by Eugene Rousseau; premier of a new work written especially for this event by composer Kirk O'Riordan; a presentation by Thomas Liley of his new biography of Eugene Rousseau; panel discussions on Rousseau’s teaching and legacy; and master classes and recitals by former students and colleagues. CHT Announces 2008-2009 Dates
The Composition, History and Theory (CHT) division will present thirteen lectures in 2008-2009. The series, titled “The CHT Forum: A Lecture and Concert Series: Crossing Boundaries,” begins Thursday, October 2, at 4:00 p.m. with “Cognition in Improvisation,” a lecture presented by ethnomusicologist and neuroscience researcher Aaron Berkowitz of Harvard University. The lecture takes place in Collins Lecture Hall (Room 217) at the School of Music and is co-sponsored by the Music Research Institute.
