UBEATS Project & BioMusic Fellows
We are looking for adventurous
and creative Elementary Music Teachers located in central NC to participate
in a new
project, UBEATS, newly funded
by the
National Science Foundation, and led by UNCG's Music Research Institute with
NC State University's Kenan Fellows Program. UBEATS is based on BioMusic and
intends to develop cutting-edge content and teaching practices that interface
music and science.
UBEATS is a 2 1/2 year project that focuses on the elementary grades (2 to
5) and is designed for two teams of teachers (one science teacher and one music
teacher per team) during the first year (summer 2008 to summer 2009). The 2nd
year (summer
2009 to summer 2010), we will introduce more teachers to the modules and techniques
that were developed in the first year by the initial four. We have Virtual
Mentors (renowned science experts) on board to work with the four BioMusic
Fellows, as well as a project team comprised of both music education
and science education
experts who will work with the BioMusic Fellows to help create significant,
new ways for teaching collaboration.
We hope you will join in this project and consider applying to become a BioMusic Fellow.
We have now opened the application process for UBEATS Teaching Fellows. Application materials are located at NCSU's Kenan Fellows Program web site.
