Music Scholarships and Fellowships

At the UNCG School of Music, Undergraduate Scholarships, Graduate Awards and Graduate Fellowships are awarded solely on merit, thus enabling the School to attract and nurture the finest young scholars and performers. Too often, especially at the graduate level, talented students are forced to bypass the UNCG School of Music to go to a school or conservatory that can offer them more lucrative awards. Generous talent-based scholarships and fellowships help UNCG recruit these gifted and creative individuals, students who inspire their peers, challenge their professors and mentors, and add immeasurably to the school’s artistic environment.

Today's college students face demands and opportunities unique to our time. It is more difficult than ever for even the most dedicated students to “work their way through school” as many have done in the past. Scholarship endowments are among the best assets a university can use to keep tuition costs affordable, enabling the university to better serve its students.

The School of Music, in collaboration with the UNCG Excellence Foundation, stewards many private scholarships and fellowships that are awarded based on a student’s musical ability. The funds in endowed scholarship and fellowship endowments are permanently invested with 4.25% made available annually to fund the actual scholarships/fellowships. These endowments provide stable, dependable, and permanent sources of financial support, protected from the uncertainties of state funding, tuition or other factors. Generally, a minimum of $25,000 is required to establish an endowed undergraduate scholarship and $50,000 to create an endowed graduate award.
