Master's Degrees: up to $3,500; Doctoral Degrees: up to $7,500
It is the policy of the School of Music that any and all financial assistance awarded to graduate students has one major purpose: to provide academically deserving students with financial assistance so they may pursue their professional studies at UNCG. Consequently, the School of Music and its faculty strive to ensure that the graduate assistantship assignments are: (1) academically and professionally rewarding to the student; (2) well within the capabilities of the student; and (3) directly related to the School of Music's teaching, research, service, and administrative operations. Recipients of stipends, whether holders of fellowships or assistantships, must be full-time students during the entire appointment period.
Assistantships
- Assistantships are awarded for a maximum of 20 clock hours per week.
- Partial assistantships may be granted with a reduced work load.
- Teaching and Non-teaching Assignments available (see specific areas on “Questionnaire”).
- Some positions may require a personal interview and/or augmented live audition.
- The School of Music reserves the right to adjust positions or make secondary assignments.
Apprenticeships
String positions with the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra and instrumental positions with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra will be available on an invitational basis to advanced students with strong performing skills who are fully admitted to the Graduate School and awarded a School of Music assistantship (special audition required).

Out-of-State Tuition Waivers
The School of Music awards a limited number of differential waivers each year to students designated as Research or Teaching Assistants for up to nine credits per semester. Only the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition is waived, students are responsible for the balance of tuition and fees.
To Apply
The Graduate School information must be submitted at least three weeks prior to the audition date and the School of Music file must be completed on or before the last audition date.
