Master of Music in Performance Studies
The Master of Music in Performance Studies builds upon an undergraduate music major degree and offers intensive work in an instrument, voice or conducting. Master of Music in Music Education
The Master of Music in Music Education leads to graduate licensure and emphasizes the acquisition of a fundamental knowledge of research techniques and scholarly writing standards. Students develop an in-depth understanding of the historical, philosophical, psychological and cultural aspects of music education including elective concentrations involving elementary/general, secondary choral/general, choral literature/conducting, string instrument pedagogy, and winds and percussion.
Master of Music in Music Theory
The Master of Music in Music Theory emphasizes analytical techniques, research skills and pedagogy. A wide latitude in the choice of research topics allows work in a variety of areas, including critical study of style and compositional techniques, as well as computer-assisted instruction.
Master of Music in Composition
The Master of Music in Composition emphasizes compositional technique, familiarity with a variety of media including electro-acoustic instruments, notational skills and practical experience in the performance of new music. The thesis provides an opportunity for composing a major work under the critical guidance of the faculty.

The Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance or Conducting develops excellence in musical performance through an emphasis on musicianship, research, literature, performance practice, pedagogy, music history, music theory, and the physical and sociological aspects of performance. The comprehensiveness of these areas, coupled with numerous performance opportunities, provides a structure wherein students are prepared to perform professionally, as well as teach in higher education.
