Auditions

Next Previous Contents

High School students interested in pursuing in a major in jazz at UNCG must prepare two auditions. These auditions usually take place on the same day. Call 334-5789 for an 'Undergraduate Audition Information' package and 'Request for Audition' sheet. For the classical audition, see the Guidelines for Audition Material in the Undergraduate Audition package. For the jazz audition, you should demonstrate 1) some jazz scales (such as the mixolydian, dorian, or bebop scales) 2) your ability to improvise. Have two or three melodies memorized and be prepared to improvise from the chord changes of your chosen melody. You may bring an Aebersold playalong with you to play with.

Jazz Scholarships are available to qualified candidates.
