Mu Phi Epsilon LogoMu Phi Epsilon

UNCG's performance-oriented Alpha-Xi chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, an international music and honor fraternity, recognizes and honors outstanding music majors who achieve high standards of scholarship and musicianship. Among its many service activities, the chapter presents off-campus performances in hospitals and nursing homes, ushers for concerts, hosts post-concert receptions, and sponsors both a mid-year, School-wide Music Quiz Bowl and a Spring Scherzo social. Members are eligible for a number of scholarships and grants awarded at both chapter and international levels.


Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia LogoPhi Mu Alpha Sinfonia

UNCG's Iota Epsilon Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the oldest and largest professional music fraternity in the United States, is dedicated to the advancement of music and to brotherhood in musical or related activities. In encouraging loyalty to the alma mater, the chapter uhers at concerts, sponsors member recitals, undertakes special service projects, and funds an annual scholarship in the School.


MENC LogoCollegiate Music Educators National Conference (CMENC)

Membership in UNCG's CMENC chapter recently swelled to the second largest in the entire nation. Designated a "Chapter of Excellence" by the North Carolina Music Educators Association, the organization has provided strong stydent leadership at both state and local levels and offers a valuable co-curricular and social opportunities for both music education and music students in the University.


Graduate Music Student Association

The Graduate Music Student Association helps unify the diversy body of graduate students in the School of Music and provides opportunities for professional development. By attending and participating in lectures, programs, and discussions, members gain valuable information about music careers.


American Choral Directors Association is a student organization
dedicated to professional and academic development for future and current
choral directors. Through speakers, information sessions, discussions,
clinics and conferences, we offer choral directors a supplement to their
course work here at the university. Meetings are the first monday of every
month at 5:00 pm.

The mission of the UNCG School of Music is:

  1. to provide a rich, stimulating environment in which students can develop as music professionals through a comprehensive curriculum enhanced by the liberal arts for undergraduate students, and through study, training, and experiences for graduate students (through the doctoral level) that will enable them to become specialists and leaders in their fields
  2. to offer a variety of opportunities for musical growth and creative achievement for all University students; and
  3. to function as a center of intellectual, educational, and cultural excellence on campus, regionally, nationally, and globally.

The School of Music has been an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music since 1938.
